Sleeve gastrectomy, commonly referred to as gastric sleeve surgery, is a minimally invasive operation that entails the excision of a significant portion of the stomach to form a smaller, sleeve-like stomach pouch. This procedure is generally conducted on individuals who are severely obese and have not achieved weight loss through diet and exercise alone. The reduced size of the stomach pouch limits the quantity of food that can be ingested, resulting in decreased calorie consumption and, ultimately, weight loss.
